Christmas Wreath/Afghanistan

I am about 1/2 finished the wreath in the current issue of Knit Simple Magazine. I am very excited. I am using Briggs and Little wool and am having fun doing it. If you go to the Knit Simple website you can see a picture of the wreath.

I am also knitting socks with Fleece Artist yarn - very soft. It is an amazing blend of blues and greens.

Well on a sad note - 2 more soldiers killed yesterday in Afghanistan. One from my home town of Bathurst, NB. He is a friend of the mother of the kids my mother babysits. I do not know him but from the picture they showed on TV he does look familiar. Very sad but I am not discouraged. Our troops are there for the right reason and have done so much good since they have been there.

My Hubby, being a soldier, says the change in the people since the election last year has been amazing. He was only there for 4 months but it was during the elections and the change started the day after everyone voted.

Imagine how happy the girls are now that they get to go to school and the younger women not feeling that they have to wear the Burka. It makes me happy that these people are getting at least some freedom. Hopefully we are even more successful than we have been. How happy these people must be with the little amount of freedom that we have helped them get.

Just imagine a little kid running beside you vehicle trying to talk to you and the translator telling you that the kid wants to have his picture taken. He sees your camera and you take his picture - then he runs away. He will never see the picture but he is happy. Something so simple as taking his picture - He doesn't know you, doesn't know even if you are going to keep his picture. Hard to believe that something so simple could make him so happy.
