So on Monday we got our first snowfall to stay on the ground, it was so pretty! I even got to go home early because the roads were bad so Pat said to go home.
Last night it snowed lightly and when we left for work this AM it was slushing. I am not sure if I made this word or if others use it but it is a really wet snow - mostly rain, so I call it slushing because that is what it ends up being once it accumulates.
Last night Brian and I went into Fredericton and picked up a few more Christmas gifts. I worked on that last part of my wreath when we got home - I should be able to assemble it on the weekend.
Brian's Mother is coming down on Saturday for his Birthday. I will wrap the gifts for her tonight so she can take them with her.
I have been trying hard not to vent on here about living in Military Housing but I am at a point that I just need to let it all out. They are changing the military housing from oil heat to natural gas - this I do not have a problem with because of the greenhouse gasses that oil heat lets off. My problem is that our oil furnace is only 6 years old and still works great. So they are spending all this money on doing this changeover when in my opinion they should run the piping if they want and then change the furnace when it no longer is functional.
Also Enbridge gas is the supplier who is doing this changeover and they will be charging $17/month as a rental charge for the meter - I think this is crazy and then from what I have read they are charging a delivery fee which is 33% of the price of the gas. I think this is an unreasonable charge. I understand that they have to pay for the piping but in my opinion 33% is crazy. They are also putting these huge ugly meters on the front of the house.
I find the whole thing so discouraging. The type of heat is not going to change the fact that the houses are drafty and what they really need is better or more insulation.
Also there are 3 or 4 companies who are removing the oil tanks and furnaces - a few weeks ago one of the companies cut the oil tank in 1/2 and left it in the basement of the house they were working on. there was a woman home and her 3 or 4 month old baby. When her husband came home at lunch time she and the baby were passed out from the fumes. At another house one of the military guys forgot to lock his door in the Am and even though the company had an appointment for the afternoon when the guy went home to meet them for the apointment they were already inside and had been for hours.
The whole situation is stupid - I wish we had enough bills payed off to get out of military housing. I do not want to deal with this crazyness for any longer than I have to.
